Posting a director overseas, and proving which entity employs them
A small market-entry consultancy wanted its Asia client services director to spend six months in Australia, building business on the ground instead of managing accounts from a distance. The overseas markets pathway supports exactly that. The hard part was not the role. It was showing which legal entity employed the person being posted.
Industry context
Market-entry consultancies sell local knowledge. A director who has originated deals and built partnerships in a market is worth more to clients than one who has managed that market remotely. The overseas markets pathway exists to support that kind of in-market experience for Singapore-based staff.
What changed and why CCP applied
The role moved from servicing remote accounts across Asia to originating deals and partnerships in Australia, with AI-assisted market analysis and proposal work built in. It was redesigned as a regional business development director role for the posting.
Our strategy
A split posting across markets was not eligible, so the plan was built around a single in-market deployment. The assessor then questioned the link between the Singapore company and a related brand, which could not be shown to the standard needed. Rather than keep arguing it, in our consultation process we based the application entirely on the Singapore entity and prepared the expatriation agreement and supporting documents on that basis. The application was approved, and the client later asked for a later start to the posting.
OJT activities included
- Prospect meetings and deal origination in the target market.
- Building local partnerships with firms in the market.
- AI-assisted market analysis for client engagements.
- Drafting client proposals with generative AI tools.
Outcome
- Role

- Pathway
- Overseas markets pathway, job redesign

Key takeaway
For overseas postings, assessors focus on which legal entity employs the trainee. Settle that, with documents, before writing anything else.
