One role, three programme channels, one decision

Case / 2026−32 Business consulting / brand strategy One role · three channels compared

A business consultancy needed to convert one role, a digital marketing specialist. Straightforward on the surface. The work was in deciding which of three viable programme channels to use, since each carried different support terms, different documentation demands, and different assessor expectations.

Industry context

Consultancies are eligible under several overlapping channels: as professional services firms, as SMEs, and through digital and marketing-specific pathways. Overlapping eligibility looks like an advantage and often becomes a trap, because firms default to the first channel someone mentions and never learn what the alternatives would have offered.

What changed and why CCP applied

The candidate was converting into a digital marketing specialism from an adjacent background. The conversion substance was not in question. The question was routing.

Our strategy

The role was assessed against three channels in parallel. The comparison covered support duration, training subsidy treatment, documentation burden on the client, and the evidentiary emphasis each channel applies, since some weight the training plan most heavily, others the employer’s own capability position, others the candidate’s prior trajectory. Mentor capability was substantiated as part of the assessment rather than after channel selection, because the strength of available supervision is itself a factor in which channel a role should go through.

Key takeaway

When a role is eligible under several channels, the comparison is the work. Doing it costs a few days at the start; skipping it costs support duration for the whole funding period.
