Finance and engineering conversions inside a regulated exchange

Case / 2025−16 Financial market infrastructure / digital exchange Four-role cohort · finance + engineering

A regulated exchange operator building out its Singapore entity pursued Career Conversion Programme support for four roles at once, one in finance leadership and three in platform and software engineering. The cohort was unusual in that it mixed a commercial function with deep technical roles under a single company eligibility position.

Industry context

Exchange operators carry an obligation to demonstrate that key functions are resourced by people who genuinely hold the competencies attached to their role. That obligation sits alongside, and sometimes ahead of, any funding consideration. The client was scaling its local finance and technology functions simultaneously, which created an opportunity to convert experienced professionals from adjacent sectors rather than compete for scarce, sector-specific talent.

What changed and why CCP applied

Each candidate was moving from an adjacent field, general corporate finance into exchange-specific financial control, and general software work into reliability and full-stack engineering against exchange infrastructure. In every case the gap between prior role and new role was real and describable, which is the threshold question for conversion support. The advisory work was in showing that the gap was structural rather than merely a change of employer.

Our strategy

Company-level eligibility was established once and reused across all four submissions, while each candidate’s conversion assessment was built independently. A formal conversion assessment table was prepared for every role, setting the previous scope against the new scope task by task, so an assessor could see the delta without needing to interpret two job descriptions side by side. The finance role was sequenced first: securing an approval on the clearest case established credibility for the technical roles behind it.

Key takeaway

In a regulated environment the conversion story has to satisfy two audiences at once, the funding assessor and the firm’s own compliance position. Writing it so that both are served, rather than writing for the grant and retrofitting for compliance, is what keeps the file clean if anyone looks at it later.
