Carrying a cybersecurity conversion all the way to the claim

Case / 2025−17 Cybersecurity / ICT infrastructure Single role · approval through to claim

A cybersecurity solutions provider needed to move a technically strong individual into a pre-sales engineering role, a position that sits between engineering and commercial, and which few candidates arrive pre-qualified for. Career Conversion Programme support covered the conversion period; the engagement then continued through to salary support claim submission.

Industry context

Pre-sales engineering in cybersecurity is a genuine hybrid: solution architecture on one side, commercial discovery and client trust on the other. Firms in this space routinely find that neither a pure engineer nor a pure salesperson can do the job, and that the only reliable route to the capability is building it inside an existing technical hire.

What changed and why CCP applied

The role was a substantive departure from the candidate’s prior scope, requiring uplift in solution scoping, client-facing consultation, and vendor-aligned technical positioning. It was also a role the firm was creating rather than backfilling. Both features point toward conversion support rather than a general training subsidy.

Our strategy

The competency set was scoped formally before any application text was written, so the training plan and the job description were derived from the same underlying skills map rather than assembled separately and reconciled afterwards. Mentor capability was substantiated explicitly, with the supervising engineer’s own credentials documented against the competencies they would be signing off, which pre-empts the most common query an assessor raises on technical OJT plans.

Key takeaway

Approval is the halfway point, not the finish line. The claim is where funding actually reaches the company, and claims fail on documentation that was never built to survive a second look. Preparing the file with the claim in mind from day one costs nothing extra at the time and saves the whole engagement later.
