A four-role cohort at a bespoke furniture maker

Case / 2026−25 Furniture manufacturing / design retail Four-candidate cohort · sales and operations

A manufacturer and retailer of bespoke furniture converted four roles as it professionalised how it sells. The business had grown on craftsmanship and referral; the conversion cohort was about building a commercial function that could carry that reputation into a larger market.

Industry context

Craft manufacturing businesses often reach a ceiling that has nothing to do with production capacity. The product sells itself in the showroom and nowhere else. Building a sales and business development function inside a firm whose culture is production-led is a genuine capability change, and one that existing staff, who understand the product deeply, are often better placed to make than external hires who do not.

What changed and why CCP applied

Four candidates were moving into scopes the business had not previously staffed: structured sales and business development, and operational coordination to support it. In a firm of this type these are new disciplines rather than expanded duties, which is the substance conversion support is designed for.

Our strategy

Because all four candidates sat in the same business with overlapping scopes, the risk was submissions that read as interchangeable. Each role was differentiated deliberately, by market segment, by stage of the sales process, and by the competency mix required, so that four applications from one small employer did not look like one application filed four times. Company-level documentation was prepared once and kept consistent across the cohort, with candidate-level evidence assembled individually.

Key takeaway

When one small employer submits four applications at once, the fastest way to lose all four is to make them look alike. Differentiation is not presentation. It is the substance of whether four distinct roles genuinely exist.
